I'm a little disappointed by this, because Comic-Con has completely outgrown San Diego, and not just the convention center... the city does not have enough hotel rooms to support this event.
I haven't seen the official PR on it, but I'm guessing that to keep the convention from moving for another five years, they are offering really cheap hotel rates, compared to recent years. The exhibitors will keep coming, and if the location losers are smart, they will keep working toward being able to lure the convention away the next time out. If they study the event, they could do it.
