**Sigh** I hate credit card companies

So, I thought I would spread out payments on having a crown done. Just keep money in the bank drawing interest, right? Especially with cards designed for dental services. Now, although I have very good credit, there can be hitches, because I'm self-employed, and other exciting things. And, the last time I checked, I had incorrect stuff in the files relating to my divorce YEARS ago. I straightened out two companies, I thought. The third required letters, here in Texas -- and I was becoming ill, so that didn't happen. It's on the list of to do as soon as I can turn away from acquiring some income.

So I try an on-line application. We're okay until they get to questions to identify myself. And they ask me in what state does XXX own property.

It is my ex-husband's new wife.

I decide that, for this question, the right answer is, I don't know this person. Fearing that this will be the wrong answer.

Then, I am asked where YYYY owns property. Never heard of YYYY.

And tell them so.

Then I get denied because they can't confirm my identity. Worse, it's one of the companies I thought was straightened out! AND -- they are now in some sort of thing with a fourth group, who has to deal with the problem. And it will take months to resolve.

I am SO thrilled. This will be SO annoying....

Sounds like you failed a test by a company called VeriID. Most financial institution have ways to work around this. Can you apply over the phone? Or, if you have a local credit union - talk to them. They should have options. Failure of VeriID happens all the time. It's based on public record, which is frequently obscure or confused.

This is Care Credit, on-line, and they made it clear that they have nothing to do with failure to pass the test. My dentist did say that he would take it in four installments, which will also be a help. But if they're using public records, they must have a high failure rate, since public records so often are screwed every which way....

Veri Id is who supplies these tests to the FIs. It is extremely prone to problems, which is why most places have alternatives. Actually I'd be a little worried about there being other issues with a loan company that did business without any alternatives. (JMHO - I work in the financial industry.) Sadly there don't seem to be a lot of ways to do online verification.

It looks like there is a contact page, and you can talk to a live agent (during the week) to get verified. But they do stress that you can be verified immediately. So that means they use the same system with the live agents?

I don't have any way of proving that I am not this woman, or that she's not part of my credit history, except talking it out on a phone call. I thought I had untangled my Ex's SSN from mine, but this suggests that there is still a tangle somewhere. It seems to take forever to do all this back and forth. The credit people won't talk to you until you are holding a credit report.

My plan was to get one every four months, and slowly rotate through getting the latest crop of problems straightened out. Having a refusal allows me a free report to get something from this CSC Credit place (in 15 states, they boast. Wonder if they are this inaccurate with everyone...) so that is one good thing out of this. When I am making more money, I may get regular reporting, just to try and stay ahead of the mistakes!

At any rate, maybe I don't want a Care Credit card after all.... The free interest for a specific amount of time would be nice, but if they make it messy, I'll just pay the doc. After all -- he's out materials and work, and even in four months I pay a lot faster than an insurance company.
