Habits are a curse, and time is an arc....

Thought for the day.

I feel this a lot right now -- things that should be child's play for me are hard, and other things, well, it's as if I've been dropped into a culture with a language I don't speak. Everything is tantalizingly close to what I know, but I have to pay attention to nuance as much as I can.

So I am learning new things every day. And if I have enough energy, it keeps me young.

Though I think this has a lot more to do with Neuroscience than the author suggests.

(Also, a lot of the assertions about memory, while more or less true for most people, are pretty incomplete for me. While, as a colleague reminds me, I too undoubtedly retain an abstraction of the events as they occurred rather than raw data per se, if I am in reasonable health I will usually remember the specific words. While this is perhaps a little unusual, there's a lot of variation among humans, generally.)

Definitely a wide span here -- one of my oldest friends has the disconcerting ability to repeat conversations verbatim years after they take place. I don't know if it is only conversations he recognizes at the time are important, or all conversations stick to him like that, but he does it.

Lots to be said for keeping on learning. *2 thumbs up*

Much better than the alternative, when taken in perspective!

That was the beautiful Max, his older brother, whom I lost the end of February. He was 18 when he went ahead, and had lived a long and mostly good life. This picture is the two of them waiting for a certain client to arrive. Merlyn was my massage therapy cat -- he felt it was his duty to greet everyone! (Since the very heavy client almost fell on him, he's been a little shyer about coming out to see people. "It was an earthquake, Mom!" he keeps telling me.)
